# run this to follow @reednj in the app
twtxt follow reednj http://twtxt.xyz/u/reednj.txt
[2.1 months ago]
@nblade cheers!
[2.2 months ago]
@mdom. cheers! I posted a comment there with a link to twtxt.xyz :p
[2.2 months ago]
A notice a few new users. Did we get mentioned somewhere?

my latest project: http://babbl.xyz/ Scrabble on an infinite board. Feedback welcome!

I sometimes see markdown in twtxt posts? Do any of the clients support rendering this, or is it just someone testing?

Flight Simulator 4 running on 3 monitors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Y8XU_R2ds I think this was the first game I ever played
[6.0 months ago]
@tx and the google dns is not even that reliable :/
[6.2 months ago]
[6.3 months ago]
have also added support for #hashtags... hopefully there is no performance import from the text searching..
[6.3 months ago]
twtxt.xyz now supports json feed. Just add '.json' to the end of a users url
[6.4 months ago]
@mdom got a link to the changelog post? Or was it email only?
[6.7 months ago]
@kas (re: pi-top) looks a bit gimmicky tbh...
[6.9 months ago]
twtxt.xyz seem like a good candidate for testing out json feed... just need to find the time
[7.1 months ago]
@tx meme markets seems to be an idea whose time has come haha
[7.3 months ago]
anyone else out there working on a sunday morning? :(
[7.4 months ago]
@phil The real spec is more like this - any line that starts with a timestamp is a tweet. They don't have the be in order. The timestamp is some type of iso8601 cc: @mdom
[7.4 months ago]
@phil (re: spec) yeah that spec was too restrictive, you can't do much with it cc: @mdom
[7.6 months ago]
judging by the flood of bot posts, it looks like the routing to enotty.dk is fixed
[7.6 months ago]
@mdom I never realised awk was a full language :o
[7.7 months ago]
@durcheinandr Never really understood how #gopher is different to the web, except having a diff transport protocol cc: @mdom
[7.8 months ago]
@tx 11 minutes... not too bad m8 :p
[7.8 months ago]
oh looks like @kas is using the @mdom metadata as well :) Looks like we have a standard haha
[7.8 months ago]
bots are gone from the main timeline :(
[7.8 months ago]
@reednj Think I will get rid of them, until I have time to implement proper 'following'
[7.8 months ago]
Ok.. maybe these bots on /timeline/all are getting a bit annoying... cc @kas
[7.8 months ago]
you can now set your username to whatever you want on twtxt.xyz when logging in w/ github
[7.8 months ago]
@mdom txt files hosted on twtxt.xyz now use your metadata format :)
[7.9 months ago]
@mdom is no-one using a command line client to follow users? Are they only being used to post?
[7.9 months ago]
@mdom yeah the bots make /timeline/all not that nice to read, but I think the solution is to allow following users when logged in, so you have your own timeline
[7.9 months ago]
@quite but apparently configuring this is not that easy, due to how ssl works. Tl;DR twtxt.xyz doesn't have https
[7.9 months ago]
@quite its sharing a server with reddit-stream.com... not supposed to be accepting https at all tbh
[7.9 months ago]
@mdom I don't get the purpose of the .gz files though? It's so they can be distributed peer to peer style?
[7.9 months ago]
@mdom (re: metadata) I like your format. I think I will add this to the local feeds on twtxt.xyz
[7.9 months ago]
@mdom (re: 8ball) too bad :/ maybe because I didn't use the full @ format what the url?
[8.0 months ago]
@8ball what is this?
[8.0 months ago]
@mdom no its not possible to do from the interface, but I can do that for you
[8.0 months ago]
atm the username has to be the same as github, but will change this soon
[8.0 months ago]
you can now log in to twtxt.xyz with github, and post through the site!
[8.0 months ago]
@phil thanks for that!
[8.0 months ago]
@mdom there's about half a dozen dead users unfortunately
[8.1 months ago]
any got any suggestions for twitter accounts to mirror to twtxt?
[8.1 months ago]
maybe enotty.dk / @kas is refusing the connection because there is no PTR record?
[8.1 months ago]
@darthlukan it's still slowly growing :)
[8.2 months ago]
actually I think twtxt.xyz is working fine, its just that enotty.dk is timing out from my server. Has the IP been blocked or something @kas?
[8.2 months ago]
@skingrapher i wish those github clones would come up with a new design though...
[8.2 months ago]
twtxt.xyz has stopped retrieving data for some reason... looking into it.
[8.2 months ago]
twtxt.reednj.com is now twtxt.xyz! (the old urls still work as well though)
[8.3 months ago]
@mdom thx! looks like theres been plenty of innovation while I've been away

Thinking of making some way to allow people to post to twtxt through this website...
[9.0 months ago]
...
[9.0 months ago]
hello...
[1.7 years ago]
@kas No logic. The HEAD request is to make sure the file is not too big. When I added the cache check later I forgot about the HEAD request
[1.7 years ago]
@kas think it might be my bot that does that :/
[1.7 years ago]
...
[1.7 years ago]
@dracoblue did you manually post that etag update to both twitter & twtxt? or do you have some sort of secret twitter<->twtxt gateway :o
[1.7 years ago]
just updated from W7 to W10 and... its actually pretty good. And I *hated* windows 8
[1.8 years ago]
@mdom yeah, it looks like its stripping punctuation from the long style mentions :/
[1.8 years ago]
@david done!
[1.8 years ago]
twtxt-dir now no longer breaks https urls @kas
[1.8 years ago]
@kas you mean entered as https? anyway, I will fix it so https urls work properly
[1.8 years ago]
@kas its changing them? :/ It normalizes https to http to generate the id, but it should still save the url as entered
[1.8 years ago]
@kdave the gateway has a whitelist of usernames atm, to stop it from getting flooded
[1.8 years ago]
@david I think certain combinations of quotes can cause the command line to get confused...
[1.8 years ago]
@mdom so it would automatically post "Im now following @reednj" or whatever?
[1.8 years ago]
@mdom I updated the website its hosted in, and forgot that the update script deletes everything before uploading...
[1.8 years ago]
twitter gateway complete: @reednj_tw
[1.8 years ago]
[1.8 years ago]
so my next task on twtxt is to create a twitter gateway that will automatically update
[1.8 years ago]
back online after accidentally deleting my twtxt file...
[1.8 years ago]
gonna be using this next time I have to do some refactoring: http://githubengineering.com/scientist/
[1.8 years ago]
@mdom @kas haha yep, I thought this was intentional as well!
[1.8 years ago]
you think anyone would be interested in hosted twtxt on twtxt-dir, or does it kind of defeat the purpose of the thing?
[1.8 years ago]
...
[1.8 years ago]
in the office at 0645. FML :/
[1.8 years ago]
will have to take a break from the twtxt-dir for the rest of the week - need to work on http://triangle-wars.com
[1.8 years ago]
add .txt to the end of the timeline and replies urls, and you can get a nice plain_text version of the pages @dracoblue
[1.8 years ago]
liking @moon...
[1.8 years ago]
only minor updates today... no time to code
[1.8 years ago]
#starwars night? #starwars night.
[1.8 years ago]
@buckket yep I've updated your url
[1.8 years ago]
@kas yeah, I don't know wtf happened to my server, but an nginx restart fixed it
[1.8 years ago]
@kas but @directory is a normal user, you can just follow it in the app, and see the updates in your timeline
[1.8 years ago]
@kas but as you can see, the updates are meant to be human readable, not machine readable
[1.8 years ago]
@kas hmm, thats an interesting idea. I already have the @directory user (http://twtxt.reednj.com/user/at/directory)
[1.8 years ago]
you can now view replies and mentions on http://twtxt.reednj.com. go to /user/username/replies
[1.8 years ago]
@xena nice one :)
[1.8 years ago]
some updates to http://twtxt.reednj.com today. Urls and @usernames are now clickable @xena @buckket
[1.8 years ago]
@buckket cool, my site will ignore anything it can't parse as well, so it should be safe to add a metadata section to the top
[1.8 years ago]
@Kopachris in the future I want to make it so you can tweet @ the directory, and it will update the name for you
[1.8 years ago]
@Kopachris your username has been updated :)
[1.8 years ago]
one last post to make sure updates are still working, then I'm going to bed...
[1.8 years ago]
@erlehmann fair point, I guess what I meant was that I don't user an RSS Reader
[1.8 years ago]
@erlehmann well, I don't use rss, so it's not really a priority for me. But its good idea, so if you submitted a patch, I'd be open to it
[1.8 years ago]
@buckket the trick is to do it without breaking the client. maybe 'hide' it in an update in the far future
[1.8 years ago]
@buckket it would be *great* to work out a way to have metadata header. a list of following would be realy useful
[1.8 years ago]
an /all feed would be cool...
[1.8 years ago]
I think I might have made the user_ids too long on the directory site... they look pretty annoying in the address bar
[1.8 years ago]
@erlehmann :/ I'm using the default ruby escaping, so hopfully no XSS haha
[1.8 years ago]
@buckket ...as long as there are multiple options
[1.8 years ago]
@buckket A completely dencentralized directory seems unnecessary...
[1.8 years ago]
it would be cool to make a service that would mirror twitter tweets in the twtxt format...
[1.8 years ago]
hello, world
